Transformation Station
Sharing, using and creating knowledge for mental health and wellbeing

The Transformation Station is an initiative designed to help mental health professionals and services develop evidence-based services. It is a partnership between mental health practitioners and academics. It is funded by NHS Lothian as part of the Joint Mental Health and Wellbeing strategy, and the Economic and Social Research Council’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme. MWIN is a member of the Transformation Station Network.
The initiative focuses on three key elements of evidence-based practice:
1. Knowledge - acquiring, synthesising and translating research knowledge
2. Research - with academics to produce more relevant and practicable research
3. Action - making evidence-based changes to practice.
A principle focus of the Transformation Station is learning how to sustain the skills and processes that develop in these areas. This will allow mental health services to continually improve and develop proactively, routinely reacting to changing challenges and circumstances, and allowing practitioners to work in effective and innovative ways.
A Transformation Station report on Skills and Resources for Acquiring Knowledge is available for download here. This contains links to the following web-based resources:
1. Developing skills in internet based knowledge acquisition
2. Educational resources for literature searching skills
3. Research databases and search tools
