PASDA NEWS - April 2012 Issue No.20

Supporting Families of Adults on the Autism Spectrum in Edinburgh & the Lothians

Recently we’ve been hearing a lot about respite for carers and the people they care for.

Caring can be such a stressful role for many people, and although we at PASDA are trying to find ways to help you reduce stress in your day-to-day lives, respite for carers is as important as ever.

No one would expect you to work every day of every week of every year in a paid role, and the role of an unpaid carer should be the same.

Contact your social worker (or ask us to make a social work referral) to talk about getting a carer’s assessment. Hopefully from this you should find yourself entitled to funding for a holiday for you and for your family member.

Shared Care Scotland have an online “widget” which is very easy to use, which will help you to find a respite or short break service which suits you and your adult. Have a look at their website: www.sharedcarescotland.org.uk to use it, or to find out more. You can also phone them on 01383 622 462, to ask about the different options, if websites and widgets aren’t really your thing.

The PASDA April 2012 Newsletter includes:
  • A Short Break Opportunity with the Calvert Trust.
  • A PASDA Get-together on Monday, 2nd April 2012, from 4.00pm - 7.00pm.
  • Information on regular PASDA meetings such as: a Carer Information Meeting; a March Carer Information Meeting Report; a Carer Discussion Group; an East Lothian Carers Group and a Partners Group.
and you can also find a:
